About Us

I began AliensAndElves.com in October 2007 as a hobby, creative outlet and programming exercise.

I've been reading fantasy and science fiction for nearly as long as I can remember. Even as a child, the stories that appealed most to me were those that employed a healthy dose of imagination ("Where The Wild Things Are" and "The Phantom Tollbooth" come to mind).

I'm also from the generation that grew up with Star Wars and watched Land of the Lost and Battlestar Galactica (no, not the new one--the dorky old one) on TV. Sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s I started reading Terry Brooks, and I've been a fan ever since.

I went to journalism school, got into the magazine business, and became an editor. For more than 10 years, I've been the managing editor at Gear Technology, the Journal of Gear Manufacturing. Recently, I also helped start Power Transmission Engineering. Somehow, I also became the primary person responsible for those magazines' websites, which is how I learned HTML and php.

I still read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, probably about 2 novels a month or so.

I am also perpetually about one-third of the way through writing my first novel. I just need to focus on writing instead of making websites (and excuses!). This could be the year.

I have a wonderful family, including my wife, Wendy, and my kids Rebecca, Matthew, Emily and Renee, some of whom are as enthusiastic about sci-fi and fantasy as I am.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the website. It's been fun for me to create it. If you have any suggestions, comments or criticisms, I hope you'll send them my way.
